One of the most popular conceptions of civil society relates to the realm of associational and public life in which people engage with each other to advance collective aspirations and ideologies.
GCRO’s 2009 and 2011 QoL surveys reveal low levels of associational life in the city-region, bar the realm of religion. Respondents were asked whether they had participated in the activities of any clubs, societies or organisations in the past year.
THE QOL SURVEYS SHOWED CONTINUED PARTICIPATION IN CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATION ACTIVITIES BETWEEN 2009 AND 2011
